No, it wasn't just on pace cars. My 1980 has it. I believe it first appeared as an option in 1974 and continued through 1982. It could be ordered with any car. With the release of the C-4's it became the Z-51 suspention. The package usually consisted of heaver springs, front and rear, plus the addition of a rear anti-sway bay and heavier front anti-sway bar. Heavy duty shocks usually completed the package. You can purchase a very simular package Vette Brakes and Products for around $899.00. Their's may be better than the factory stuff. VB&P calls it their "Street & Salom Suspension System" And from what I hear, It rocks.
Good Luck!!
I have a 78 Silver Ann. L-82 w/ Gymkhana suspension. You all are right, the ride is incredibly bumpy....like a tank. Although it beats you to death, the handling is amazing. I have almost no body roll, and the handling is amazing. I got a vet for perfomance and beauty, and I wouldn't give up my Gymkhana for anything....I love it.
Sorry to disagree 82dukman, but the FE7 option spring for 80-82 consisted of 9 leaves. The standard spring in 80 also had 9 leaves. The standard spring for 81 & 82 was the monoleaf fiberglass spring. I also have the FE7 option and I count 9 leaves. You really have to get under the car to see them all.

I agree, my 82 has the Gymkhana suspension and is the same as you described.
I think you have the years available jinked up. I'm note sure how many years it was out there, but I know it was available in 1973 as RPO Z07 although specs show only 45 were ordered.

Re: Gymkhana Suspension (Mac)
Had it on my '80, you could feel any crack in the road, shook a few parts loose in my Sony, unless you are a serious road racer or you can handle the truck like ride ( actually newer big rigs have a smoother ride ) stay with the normal suspension. Just my 2 cents :D
Thanks for the info. I was just curious. I have done autoX in the past in my modified 98 Saturn SL2 and would someday like to do so in the Vette, but at the moment I have bigger problems to deal with then the suspension.
Since this thread is already a CE full house, I thought I might as well jump in.
I have the standard mono leaf spring on my 82, and the ride is pretty nice compared to the other vettes i have ridden in.
I have auto crossed only once and I thought it was a blast, I thought the mono leaf did just fine. But what do I know after just one try.
I guess I need to do some more racing :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
