Default 81 Hood Release

My Hood Release cable busted last week and luckly the hood was open so at least I cought a break on that. I purchased a new cable and all and my father bless his heart decided to help by taking it all apart for me.

Now I don't find anything in my manual and I can see a few ways of doing it. I'm looking for something to follow. does anyone have a image or picture you can share of under the hood and where the cable connects?

Thanks

I’m spiraling down into car hell. I can now see how it all works and I’m struggling with a problem. The hood cable runs through a hollow plastic casting. This casting runs from the inside of the though the firewall near the hood latch.

I can barely get under the dashboard and can look around but I can’t work under there to find the opening to push the casing through.

If I try to push the casting through from the engine bay, I can get about 1 or 2 inches and it gets jammed on what I think is the back of the fuse box.

Has anyone been down this path and have any tips?

Thanks

There is a small tube that comes out of the firewall just above the fuse box , find it and feed the cable through it.It should come out right where you need it to , mine did .

Hello on my 81 a piece of the inner cable was stuck in the flexible outer cable. Removed the old outer cable and found another from a bike for a replacement. Also have a new inner cable with hood release handle. Problem is I cant find where the cable goes through the firewall from under the dash and a wire wont go through from under the hood. I took this pic near the fuse box there is a silver fastener for reference.. I am getting to old to work under the dash.

These pics help? The first time I did it, I removed the 2 bolts that hold the fuse box to the firewall, then pulled it away. It was still a bitch, but a little easier. This is my 79'

thanks duke94 now I see where it goes. May go after it if I take the seat out someday. I am normal size but cant really get both hands in there to work. I took the latches out and put some soft plastic in to support the hood so will go like that for awhile
