Ok, a little about the car first...its an '81, and its going to be powered by an LS1 or LS2/L76 and a T56, with an earlier iron differential on the aluminum batwing. I'm planning on rack and pinion steering (Rack Attack or homebuilt, waiting for more reviews), and 17/18 wheels. The car is going to have most of the creature comforts (Vintage Air, factory power windows and locks), so weight should be around the stock weight, maybe a little less. I'm doing a full frame off, and will be stiffening the chassis (welding seams, boxing some of the weak points, etc) as much as possible. I might even put a 4 or 6 point bar in it.
I'm building what I would consider a fairly serious Pro Touring style car, that can be driven anywhere. I want it lower than stock, but not so low as to adversely affect driveabilty, but my main concern is tightening everything up as much as possible. Its going to be mostly street driven, but the occasional track day at Road Atlanta or Little Talledega isn't out of the question. I'm not too concerned about giving up some ride quality. I do, however, want to do this once if possible. I'm leaning towards VB&P, but there are tons of options...front leaf conversions, coil overs, etc...what would you guys recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I have been working on cars for about 23 years, but this is my first Vette!
