My friend machined me up a set of aluminum discs to reinforce the rear differential crossmember. My question is regarding the correct hardware to use. Should I install studs with red loctite on the frame to hold the crossmember in place, or should I just use longer bolts? The reason I ask is because some of the kits out there come with studs...
I used a Stainless steel stud. I ran the stud then mounted the X member with a washer and a bolt. Then I put on the aluminum disc and then another washer and nut. So my X member is actually held in by 2 sets of washers and nuts.

Hey, that's a good idea! So did you use loctite on the end of the stud that went into the frame? WHat length of stud did you use?

No I did not loctitie but that is a good idea. Mine does start to spin out when I remove the 2nd nut. Not a big deal but it will come out. I just got a piece of S.S. 7/16 rod and cut to length what I needed. I don't really remember what length it is.
Here is a picture so you can see about how much stud is sticking out.

Are you referring to threaded rod? I didn't know they sold that stuff in Grade 8...
I got one of the kits and it came with 2 nuts for each stud, the first one secured the crossmember and the second held the disc. I did use loctite on them.
The threaded rod is not grade 8. Mine is Stainless steel. The really is very little stress on that bolt. with the weight of the car it is resting on the sombrero hat and not really the bolt at all. The aluminum disc is just to stabalize the X member. A grade 8 bolt or stud is really not needed in this case.
