Default 1979 Model 1:24

Our Corvette Club had its Christmas Party tonight. I have been looking for 1979 models for some years. I have only found 1978 Pace Cars and Anniversary Editions. So here was my door prize.

I can't find an '80 anywhere...

I think I'm gonna buy an '82 for the right body style and a '78 to get the right engine and wheels and "kit bash" an '80 together.

Maybe get the body powerdercoated for the right color.

Chris,
This was an under $10.00 thing. The quality is very poor compared to UT but the point is that this is the first time I have ever seen a model of a 1979. FWIW, it is Motor Max die-cast licensed from Chevrolet to Red Box Toy Factory Ltd. Yes, made in China.

ah...still doesn't look bad...

Yeah...what I wanna do is UT 1:18. Expensive if it doesn't work, but worth it if it does...

My wife just wound up buying me a black 78. I looked and looked for a 79 also. The 78 I have is made by UT and is awesome. When I come across that 79, I may have to lay down some cash.
Cool door prize.

How can they sell something that size, ""decently" done for $9.99  I'm always amazed when I come back from Sam's Club with a fresh "score". Like: doors open, hood opens, there's an engine inside, likewise an interior, front wheels controlled by steering wheel! If made in the U.S. of A., would probably coat $99.99 :)

This is a UT 1:18 model of the 1978 Silver Anniversary. Very nicely detailed. I am not an expert on prices. This one was $75.00CDN or about $50.00US. On the <$10.00 question, some members tend to be a little more generous than they should be.

Yeah, I've been looking for 79's myself. The closest was a black 78, but they don't even sell those in the catalogs now :cry :cry :cry I waited too long. :smash: :smash: :smash:

Follow the link for a '79, should be the same one as shown above. It's only $7.99, so don't expect one that looks as good as the '78 pictured above.

Costs almost more to ship it than to buy it.

The 1978 model above is apparently in stock at this Canadian source. The price is $49.95US.

That's the one I plan on stealing pieces from and merging with an AutoArt (UT) '82 to make an '80. :D

I saw some out here at an auto swap-meet a few weeks ago going for US$5 a piece. I thought it was quite high priced for a toy car and they also didn't have one in black that matched the card it came with so I didn't buy it. Good luck to you with your search.

Edit: after realizing you had photos appended to your post, those are much bigger than the ones out here. The ones I saw were similar to matchbox cars.

I have also been looking everywhere for a 1:18 diecast scale 1981. I can't seem to find any. Most people say just to buy an '82 CE and paint it the color of my car, but it wouldn't have the L-81 engine. :( :( :(
Maybe I should start a model car business and make 79, 80, 81, and any other non-popular model years. :D
