Ive been researching belt routings on a SBC 350 and my setup is not like any ive seen.
1. WP pulley has 3 grooves
2. PS pulley has 2 grooves
3. Alt pulley has 1 groove
4. Crank pulley has 2 grooves
Does anyone else has a WP pulley with 3 grooves and a crank pulley with 2? I imagine the most logical setup would be
Crank - WP - Alt
WP - PS
and Crank - WP
Anyone else agree or have other suggestions, im open to ideas
in my AIM all of the configurations have a belt from the WP to crank. Ive also figured out that my PS pulley is off of a 454, WP pulley is for a car w/ ax(which this car doesnt have??) and the Crank pulley is for w/o PS. Will this setup still work?

It will work.
In my 72 AIM I saw that there are 6 belts configuration for 454 engines, in all cases there is a belt between the crank & WP but in only two cases you have idler to adjust this belt, but I don't understand how you can tighten the belt in other 4 cases with out idler.
Do you have idler wheel for this adjustment?

Without an idler you can fit a belt between the crank and the WP by removing the bolts from the WP pulley and tipping the belt on. I used a 1/2" belt that fit flush to the top of the groove.
Also I cut off the head of a bolt and rounded the tip of it and screwed it into one of the WP hub holes to help line up the pulley when reinstalling the assembly.
On a car with a A.I.R. pump smog assy the water pump pully that is a dbl grove has a seperate single brove pulley installed to give the 3rd. grove for the smog belt.
If you remove the fan assy you will be able to tell if that is what you have.
no i dont have an idler pulley, my engine is a 350. I also dont have an A.I.R. Pump. My WP pulley is off the car right now and it is a solid 3 groove pulley. Talk about a grab bag of pulleys
I have a 69 and I am not sure why I have 2 spots of belts on the crank and 3 on the water pump. It has no air and no power steering. Did someone change the configuration? It did have a air pump on it at one time. Also when I got the 69 it it had one short belt between the water pump and the crank and a belt that went around the water pump, altenator, and the crank. I do not know what is correct.
