strange gas leak
found a really strange gas leak today,i smelled fumes every time i drove the car hard.then after sitting a while gas drips on the ground,took tank out and cheked the lines and gaskets at the sender, all good.what the heck could it be?well it turns out there was a small pin hole in the steel return line the is weldead to the tank.it seems to have rusted out because when you wash the car or it rains the water pools on top of the tank,if you dont move the car or it sits for a while this area is prone to rust.remember after washing to go out and drive fast!you are doing you car some good :chevy

Just another good reason to get the car out. Besides you have to wash the car everytime you drive it anyway, right? Gotta keep the shine on plus it keeps the water from pinholes from forming in the fuel lines. :cool:

There should be a plastic cup around the filler neck. It has a drain hose connected to it I think. Isnt this supposed the catch the water and drain it to the ground? Maybe a crack in the cup or a missing or cracked or clogged drain hose?

yes cup is still there,but the water will go under the filler lid and run along the under side of the deck depends on how the car sits,the cup is there more or less to catch over flow from the gas filler and drain thi to the ground,probly works for water to some what,but didnt in this case.a word to the the wise ,take you car for a boot after washing.not a hard pill to swallow
