I agree heartily with the .035 - .040

after lots of years dealing with Hi-po stuff and many hours dynoing carbs on a cross section of engines.

in large part most everything ran best in that range

I just rebuilt my entire distributor and did wires and plugs. I wish I had seen this post first. I gapped the plugs at .045 but my compression is only 9.5:1 so I guess I have nothing to worry about !

I did allot of carb work (q-jets) for stock class racing and found the best plug gap to still be in the .035-.038 range for these engines with stock type ignitions in them. This also proved to be true on the dyno. Going fast with these types engines is in every detail of what you do.
