Default Rear "CORVETTE" letters

How do you remove the rear letters. I removed the nuts but they seem to be glued also. What is the best removal method?

If you don't want to mess up the paint I would use a stiff plastic bondo spreader and try to pry off or try to get in behind and push on tabs where nuts were removed.

3M makes a trim adhesive remover that works very well. Spray it on, let it creap behind the letters and if there is adhesive it will loosen it. The spray has never damaged any paint I have applied it to.

I used a hair dryer to loosen up the glue, then a putty knife to pry it off. Oh by the way, mine was being stripped for paint. I wouldn't do this to a good paint job.

Start at one end of the decal(lettering). Use a heat gun/hair dryer to warm up the surface and; maintain a light tension on the decal at the same time as the heat is being applied. As soon as the decal starts to lift remove the heat source. Continue until the whole decal is removed. Warning, be cautious of using too much heat; as it will lift paint from the surface.

Slow process, but can be done with no damage to the paint.

Buy "Goo Gone" at hardware or Home Depot. Spray it on/over/around the letters and let it sit. Then use fine fishing line and work it between the letter and body. Then use a sawing action and work your way around the letter (or emblem) keeping it well wet with the Goo Gone stuff. Worked well on both my 71' and 78'. I was a little (no a lot) afraid to use the heat gun method.

If this car is stock they are not glued. Each letter has two posts. A long one that the acorn nut attaches to and a locating post. I would heat the area up in the sun or use a hair dryer and try to push them out from the back.

What is your purpose for doing this as it may not look very pleasing with the C O R V E T T E indent and the holes showing.
By the way I have owned my 75 since November 75.
Good Luck
Steve

dental floss works just as well as fishing line. In fact, you might try the dental floss by itself without the goo gone. Lots of the debadged rice rockets round here use this method.
