Default L-82 Top End Upgrade

Considering upgrading the top end (heads, cam) on my 78 L-82 for a little more kick. I have been looking at Edelbrock cam and head set that seems reasonable. Cam & lifters P/N 2102, Head P/N 60899 (64cc chamber). I would like some feedback from folks that have done something similar and what performance increase was gained.

Thanks for the info.

Don't use the cam your L/82 cam is far better.
# 2102 cam.
int. dur. at .050 = 204/214
valve lift .420/.442

The Edelbrock 64 cc heads would be a good choice, but your should consider a more aggressive cam. Check out the Lunati VooDoo cam and lifter sets- 60101 or 60102 in the Summit catalog. A little more duration- especially on the exhaust side and more lift. Good for a street car, stock converter and still plenty of vacuum. Make sure you get new lifters to break in with the cam you select.

I've got my eye on a set of used Vortec heads. Casting# 906. Are these a good upgrade choice?

Vortec heads are great. You will need a new intake to match the vortec heads.I went with Trickflows complete head kit which includes a cam and roller rockers.I purchased the kit from summit. My car dynoed about 270 hp at the wheels which is abot 350 hp at the crank.Look at my pictures for the dyno sheet.
