Appreciate any feedback from C3'rs running "correct" style plus wires with the stainless braiding. (This is for a '68 big block.)
Any issues?
I ran a set of repros many years ago and had problems with them shorting out and causing ingnition problems. So haven't used this style in a decade. Just bought a set and they appear better made. Still, wondering what sort of luck others are having with them these days.
Thanks-
I have a fairly new set of repro braided wires - that are in a box in my garage. I ran them awhile and had an occasional miss. I put in some quality 8mm wires and hand-terminated each wire at the distributor for a great look. Unfortunately, such wires are too thick to fit inside the braided SS sheathing... It would be great to find a vendor selling 8mm wires in SS sheathing to fit. That would give us a stock look with better wires...
I ran them on a 427 '67 I had and never experienced any problem. You shouldn't have any problem either as they were original equipment. Just be sure they are all properly grounded and that you check the resistance of each one to be sure it's within specs.
I am running the Accel armor core braided wires on my truck and have just put them on the vette, no problems, they have been on the truck for over 5 years now. They are 8mm and blue at the ends. Not stock repros though....
Thanks for the input. I'm not going to worry about these wires then. They appear to be high quality, and it's easy to determine if there's a miss going on.
And they do look great. In fac the freshly rebuilt bb looks great right now, waiting to be dropped in. I'd post a photo if I knew how to do that. :o
Probably depends on who made them Chinese? Lectric Limited has quality parts for our Vettes. Buy Lectric Limited stuff through "corvette lady" on Ebay or Wilcox for best prices.
I found the reproduction braided wires somehow in low quality. I had all sort of problems with mine (heat cracked, lose crimbs .. etc), I threw them away and used 8.5 mm accel wires, which are great and far better.
I have a set of Taylor braided wires on mine. Make sure you "ground" the wires to the engine block....I didn't at first and had misses at high RPM's. Also, at night (in the dark), when I revved the engine up, it looked like a bunch of fireworks was going off under my hood...sparks jumping. It went away (both the misses and "fireworks") after I properly grounded the wires.

Nope...there's a grounding kit that comes with the set...basically it connects 4 wires together (like a wire loom) that has a wire you connect to a bolt on the block. You do the same thing with the other 4 wires. This grounds the spark plug wires

The braided plug wires I just added to my 79 are a 1st for me,so I'm glad you informed me of this.I havent noticed any problems yet,but I've only driven it a couple times since.I also installed a polished Performer Air-Gap and a Performer carb at the same time.
