I've a problem getting the retaining ring back on the drivers door. I removed the lock to clean and oil the system as the key wasn't working smoothly. When you remove the lock there is a key way that has a pin to lock the lock to the door on the inside. I'm having a heck of a time re-installing it. I've some looong nose needle nose plyers but still can't seem to get it done. Is there a trick to this or am I just not holding my head right?
Thanks,
Chuck
I don't know what year you have so its hard to help. If you have an alarm switch on your car, you need to turn it until the 2 tabs get seated. Then the rest should push up ok, and install the C locking tab.
chuck,
i just reinstalled the lock on my 70 tonight. I found it easier to remove the 3 screws on the side of the door to remove the door open/locking mechanism. Then disconnect the lock rod, and the 2 door pull rods from the mechanism and it can slide down and out, leaving enough room to get your hand inside the door, provided the window is all the way up. Then you can use your hand and wriggle the c clip into the lock. NOTE: Save yourself some time and make sure that the lock is the right way up and the c clip is straight on the lock when installing it. If the clip isnt centered on the lock you will have a heck of a time getting it on
