Ok, just about ready to insulate the cabin. I bought 36 sf of Dynamat Extreme a couple of weeks ago but I have been reading that it wouldnt be enough. So this time I ordered 50 sf of Fatmat to finish out with. UPS delivered the Fatmat today. When I opened the box this stuff is as thin as a sheet of paper nearly. The Dynamat is probably 4 times thicker.... Has anybody used the Fatmat and does it work for sound deadening? Do I need to double it up?
Not worried about the heat I went to Lowe's this morning and picked up two rolls of Reflectix to go over the Dyanamat and Fat (thin) mat.
Fat-Mat is fine for it's thickness, but being that it is so thin, Dynamat is much better. If you need to you can double it up and that'll help, but it won't be as effective as straight Dynamat.
A few years back I went with a product called Brown Bread. It was much much cheaper than Dynamat and about the same thickness. I doubled it anyway because I bought so much. My vette now has a very quiet ride.
I searched this many times when deciding what deadner to use. I went with Raamatt. I have not installed it yet so can not comment to how effective it is. But I did want a butyl mat. But you can not go wrong with dynomat.

I use rammat also. Lot cheaper and works just as well. Rick from RAAMaudio is a very good guy to buy from. Known him for a couple of years from the stereo forums. Here is a sound deadening showdown that someone did. http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
i have also heard good things about the raammat. does it insulate against heat also?
They did a temperature test and rammat went to 240 degrees the best was Dynamat extreme. To bad you didnt get a hold of rick a year or so ago he was living in St.Helens Oregon you could have got a good deal.
Can't comment on either of those products, but have a tip.
Be cautious about how much reflectix and/or other material you use on the drivers side tunnel next to the go pedal. I only added 1 layer of refectix and the new carpet. Finished the carpet on Sunday so we went for a spin and my boot was a very tight fit between the brake pedal and the tunnel and would catch at times. Normally don't wear the work boots when driving the vet, but am sure there are folks out there with bigger feet than me. With the old carpet and no underlayment, I didn't notice/experience this.
