Default will this serp setup work?

I have a line on a 89 chevy silverado with a TBI 305CI V8. I can get the whole serp setup and accessories from the truck for just about nothing.... maybe $80. Will this work for my original 1972 Smallblock??? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

I know I have seen a number of guys running the serp setup from the 350 TBI version but I wasn't too sure about the 305 version... if it was compatible and the same ole story! I'm glad to hear that! Guess I will go and get it!

Thanks,

Sully

I have one of those setups and it didn't look like the hood would close, so I got one from an 88 vette

was it b/c of the A/c compressor or the alt? Did you try it or just eyeball it? I don't doubt you b/c you almost always have great advice but I just need to know for sure...

thanks,

The truck serp. seems to sit high in the front. Alt and comp. I did my 73 with one off a S10 4.3. I cant say for sure that the stock hood would fit. I have an L88 aftermarket hood on, and never put the stock on to see if it would fit. I kinda doubt it.

I was eyeballing because I don't have the front clip back on it yet, but it looked pretty high, above the top of the radiator support. I got it pretty cheap and got a decent deal on the 88 vette setup so the truck setup went in the spares box
The top of the R4 compressor was going to be a problem.

Is this the same as the LT1 brackets you asked me about or a different deal altogether?

diff deal all around.... i can get a whole LT1 set up or I can get this serp setup off this silverado truck. I know that you said the Lt1 stuff won't fit b/c of the A-arms. I'm just wondering if this late 80's 305 silverado setup will fit...

You can't use LT1 stuff on a "regular" small block. LT1 has the water pump driven off the cam. TBI truck stuff 305, 350, even some 4.3 is all the same; there are several who have used it successfully.

think so?? I thought so too when looking at it but everyone else seems to think it wont fit under my stock 72 hood... you have an early C3 like mine, Mark, you'd know best... should I try it or keep looking for a early C4 setup???

Just for the record, I have a C4 setup on mine and it fits fine. I have said in the past that TBI stuff looked high and had a long water pump that wouldn't work but I got pictures shown of people that had them in the car and running. I can't say for sure because I have not done it or seen it with my own eyes but I have seen pictures posted here. I'll try to find one.

Default thanks Mark

I appreciate your help! Let me know what you find... I would really like to speak with someone who has done this firsthand... Yeah I know you have a C4 setup and it looks just awesome... I really like the way it looks overall...plus you do have it in a pretty lil steel bumper early C3... I'm kinda partial to those too.

I can't find anything in the last year-sorry. I know you cannot use TPI with TBI brackets, but I was pretty sure I have seen more than 1 photo of somebody with tbi truck or 4.3 brackets in a carbed C3 with stock hood. Can't find the proof-anyone?

I've got the F-body setup, and I wouldn't want the alternator and A/C pulley sitting any higher. Those truck brackets are tall...

Mark, can you give me some measurements from your car please? First, I need a measurement of how high the front tip of your air cleaner is from the front intake seal deck. Then, please lay a long straight board or rod from the tip of the air cleaner to the top of the radiator core support. Take pics from the side showing clearance under that board. Then, please measure from that board, straight down to the center of the crank pulley.

I can use these measurements to determine, based on the air cleaner Sully has, how much room he'll have with his stock hood to fit the TBI brackets.

Pics from the side with that board will really help a lot. Thanks.

As soon as you guys figure it all out, let me know. I want to install a cost effective serpentine soultion on my project Vette. And from what I've seen/priced so far, this kind of mod is costly unless you can find the "ideal" setup at a junk yard.

Define "cost effective" - my F-body brackets cost less than $200, then I had to buy a few things like an A/C delete pulley and the proper water pump.
