do i really need to remove my exhaust?

so i need to change the starter and i got the stupid bracket off... an hour later and now the exhaust is in the way. is there a way to get it out easier that removing it? I know that if i take it off ill be buying a new one

this is my first project.. kinda.. and now i see how things will be adding up lol

With the stock exhaust you should be able to get it off. I had to pull my header to get it off but with manifolds you should have enough room.

I've had starters out of both my 78SA and white 79 without touching the exhaust.

no i already have all the bolts off but when i try and pull it out the header is in the way

That is how one job leads to another. When I was replacing my exhaust system I had the starter rebuilt even though it worked fine--was original starter and may not have been touched in 36 years. Also pulled the chrome plug wire covers off and had them rechromed.
