Hey all, I am putting my engine back together and need some help / advice on a new ignition system. For everyone who says "stay with the stock HEI" thanks for the advice, but i dont have the stock HEI. I have a dual quad set up, so i dont know how that would effect a vacuum advance. I would assume i would have to hook it up to the primary carb, but like i said, i dont know how vacuum advance would be affected by a dual quad.
Anyway what set up would you all recommend? thanks,
Steve
I have an MSD Digital 6AL ignition module (with two stage rev limiter, valet mode, etc.), MSD Blaster 2 Coil, MSD Pro-Billet Corvette distributor (yes, this is the actual MSD name) and MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wires (custom fit for C3). I could not be more happy with this set-up. It will provide much more power and fuel economy than any HEI set-up and it is easy to install. Here is MSD's website- http://www.msdignition.com/
There's nothing special about a Vette ignition. You should be able to find an HEI out of any car of the era in your local junkyard that will work. Cars built after 74 don't need a tach drive.
For some reason one of the previous owners of my 75 had put in an old points distributor. IIRC I paid around $30 for mine and put another $10 or so into rebuilding it. Happy hunting.
