Default Side Pipe Header Options...1 7/8" Torque Killer

Does anyone know if there's a sidepipe header other than Hooker, that will work directly with the Hooker 4" sidepipes? For the 388 torque monster motor I built, I would much rather have 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" primaries. Of course, by the time I finish pounding and clearancing my current 1 7/8" Hooker headers so that the bracket bolts will fit, they may be down to that size anyway... Help!

Why? Free flowing exhaust is a plus on horsepower and torque. No down side with a 388 and 1 7/8 primaries. If you want to restrict exhaust flow just put some reverse flow inserts in your 4" tubes. That will choke your motor quite a bit.

The primary pipe length is OVER 40" long. With a 388 cu/in motor you won't lose much torque and the smaller diameter pipes would kill off some power over 4500RPM. You did build a motor for a "Sports car" didn't you?

ARP head studs with the tiny 5/16 hex nuts clear the larger diameter pipes. I actually had to also grind down the supplied washers to clear my primary tubes.

When you install the big 23 degree heads like 227 cc the exhaust port is actually bigger than 1 3/4 pipe.

Another option like when I was running 2 inch pipes on my small block is the Moroso header adapters.

Thanks for the advise. I did some "clearance" work (BFH) this afternoon, and I think I can make my brackets fit with the Hooker's. They were a Fleabay special, so even after recoating, I'll come in at 1/2 the price of the Stahl's.
