Default header tuning

how important do you guy think it is to try to tune your exhast system on a 425hp engine? correct primary, collector and secondary size and length? It looks like for me in my power band 3500-7000. I need 1 3\4 primary into a 3 1\2, 10" collecter and about 50" secondays then spiral baffels and some turn down to finish it off. these are going under factory side pipe covers thats the real problem finding a stock header that turns out. McJack's has a side pipe header but I think the collector is too short and small. I have a prefectionist problem.

My thoughts on tuned headers and equal length headers is this, if you are not racing competitively where tenths of a second matter, don't waste your time or money. More times than not, these headers are very expensive and are not user friendly when it comes to plug changes, wire routing, or whatever else you can think of. To me the gains are just not worth it. Sure you can argue the science behind it and back it up with power gains but is it really worth it? Only you can answer that question though.

One more thing to keep in mind in general. Can you even use the power you'd be making without these special headers or any other special part, or would you just be spinning your wheels? If you can't put the power to the ground that you'd be making without the headers, why spend the money on the headers to make more power instead of spending the money to better use the power you have now? This scenario works in many different ways with all sorts of modifications. It's just something to remember when you start to decide what to do next.
