I want to replace my original radio in my '74 convertible. Does anyone have any advise wear to buy one? I leaning towards an am-fm stereo or am-fm/cass.
Thanks :chevy
most parts dealers have radios and cassette deck that will work, try ecklers or centeral corvette.but be aware most of us go the after market route by monting a new style deck some wear else and or using a remote controle unit
I decided that I wanted to replace my original deck with a CD player. In order to mount it I had to modify my center gauge bezel. If you have a quality shop do this it can look very nice. Chosing this option you can buy and install just about any radio you want. Sources like crutchfield.com offer good prices and a very wide selection.
I decided to go the DIN style CD player route. You do have to cut the center guage plate to make it work and buy a plastic faceplate to make it look right. (Or you have half of each of the recessed **** sections showing when your done:U ) A company called American International www.aius.net sells the face plate for like $12. Part# FP-306. I'd have pics of what it all looks like installed if I could ever get my interior back together :cry
"Custom Auto Sound" and "Kenwood" make numerous units that fit right in the original bezel without modifications, and are available for all year cars. Units that are just AM-FM- radios, all the way up to CD Changer compatable. These units are available through Zip and Riks Vette catalogs. Other catalog vendors probably carry them also. I picked up a basic C A Sound cassette deck for my 77 at the Vette Fest in Chicago for $180. $30 cheaper than any vendor. It fits in the bezel perfectly, has all the modern features, and sounds fine considering the money I wanted to spend, the speakers I have, and the lack of a power amp. Good Luck in your search
