Default rediculously priced vettes

I saw a 71 convertible on the side of the road and decided I'd hummor the owner and ask him how much. Before i tell you what he wanted, let me describe:
no engine, no transmission, no interior, hard top, 350 auto(converted to 4 speed) no chrome, aftermarket mako hood deal, none of the numbers even remotely matched, rear bumper...well I have no idea what happened there or what he was thinking. The guy claimed it had all the parts...he just didn't mention they where all shoved in the car, and he demanded i didn't open the door, or the parts would fall out. The front window was busted the sides scratched beyond repair, the hard top window missing, the body showed how it was made, showing me spot after spot of fiberglass fibers glistening. The non-fiberglass showing part of the body apeared rusty(don't ask me  ). Anyway, he says "its all there" I said "minus the motor right". He told me he had it "back in the shop"...I looked at the car and said "then its not all there is it?". I asked him what happened to the chrome bumpers, he told me they could be bought, again proving it wasn't all there, so I said "for $1000, oh ya, and theres no mounting brackets, theres not even holes for the brackets"...apparently he glassed them in for that "custome :U " look. I figured It was junk, but every corvette I see, no matter how bad, has potential, this one did too(of course it was a "$40,000 bill" to restore car). So I offered him $500 :blueangel: . He told me i was rediculous, that it was a $2,500 car. A $2,500 CAR!?!?!?...Im afriad not. I laughed at him and said good luck, and was on my way...needless to say its still there. Maybe after christmas I'll go offer him $400...because i know it will still be there. It was funny to see his reaction when I proved time and time again that I knew about the cars, and he couldn't sell this to me as an "origional".

Anyone else have a story about a car for a rediculous price?

Daniel

Some people are just ignorant crooks out to screw people over. I'm sure he'll get to the point that he's willing to give the car away.

But, for a car in this shape, couldn't he part out the car and ebay it one part at a time, and get considerably more $$? How much would be worth the frame alone, if in good shape?

This guy may be smarter than you think. Look around at what these salvage yards are getting for used parts... even "very" used parts are fetching top dollar these days. A door hinge here... a rear view mirror there... it adds up.
He's no dummy... if even 40% of that car can be turned for parts he's right in the ball park. Figure it out part for part... it adds up.

see thats just it, there isn't even 40% of the car there. Its just a frame and a body. He tried to tell me it was worth more because it had "wider tires"...I said "how so, their not stock"...I only did that to bring down the cost...if I was in his shoes I'd try to use anything and everything as a selling point also. As for the frame...I personally wouldn't pay $500 for it...I wish I had pictures to show you guys. The frame looks to me like it'd need to be replace. And as for suspencion, that was all pretty well shot too. only stock parts of the body left where the doors and hard top...window frame rusted...it seriously wasn't work more then $800 IMO

From what I saw at Carlisle last August, his price is in the market band. I suspect that he knows what he is doing.
