Default headlight assembly mounts?

My car has the square headlight mods and the original headlight holes were glassed over. In about a month or two I will be working on restoring it back to original configuration. I can't figure out what the headlight assemblies are supposed to mount to. I don't see anywhere to bolt them on under there. DO they mount to the grille supports?
Anyone have a picture for me?

they mount to the front support behind the bumper, and the metal support channel where your horn and head light control unit mount. that trapazoidial looking piece right in front of your forward hood opening. they are 5/16 bolts. i am doing a 68 right now and i will send you some pictures if you will send me your email through a pm. i haven't figured out how to send them in the forum yet. you may already know but the original 68 head light openings are small compared to 69-74, if you have your original front clip. if it has been replaced with an after market piece, the openings are generaly as large as those in the 69-74 types. let me know if i can help some more. take care, jim

Default headlight assemblies

I'm in the middle of this too... with my 72... there are five bolts that hold the headlight assmebly in place.... two in the front that mount to the nose bar and three in the back that mount to the header bar....these mount right up but it seems like there are some kind of spacers or something that mount in between the nose bar and the front pieces of the headlight assembly brackets. I haven't figured that one out yet. My old stuff has some crappy type of spacer that I can't clean up and make presentable but I can't see where they are listed anywhere in the AIM nor on any website so I might be wrong and these may be somme sort of bubba thing... hopefully someone will chime in so I can get mine correct too....

I just re-installed mine this weekend (replaced header bar and painted over the winter). I live by the Schaumburg airport. Let me know if you want to drop by and see the assembly. PM me your info.

the "Bubba Shims" are used to reduce the pre-load on the frames. i found cars with broken frames not having the shims. when i weld the ends back on the frames, i suggest using small "U" body shims to reduce the pre-load. if not, they will break again. i have not seen any shims available from the aftermarket companies, but that's not saying they aren't there. i find the body shims used for setting the camber on the a arms work well with less "Bubba" apperance. hope this helps.
