My fiber optics are not working on the front of my car. I found the ends....cut off right in front of the radiator....but cannot find where they connect to the headlights. I assume that there is a location in the headlight frame somewhere to land the end of the fiber optic. Does anybody know where that might be? I pulled out one of the headlights but could not see anyplace that would accept the fiber optic end.
Those GM designers are tricky!
The fiber is the middle 'wire' in the headlight plug in. There's a small area on the back of the headlights that lights up. The optics point at that!
You know, I looked at that and wondered if that was where it would go. But there is actually an electrical wire in that slot. The center prong on the headlight plugged into it.
My headlight connector does not have a hole in the center of the three prongs either. Makes me wonder if it has been changed at sometime. Oh well, I will go look again.
Wayne - The optic sensor is in the center of the three prongs. You may want to trace that 'wire' because it sounds like it is the sensor and Bubba just cut them. If so, all you would have to do is get a splice kit from one of the suppliers and you're in business. You'll also have one in the bright light plug between the two prongs. The fix would be the same. Good luck!
I'm totally out of my element here (never personally saw any fiber optics below the console), but maybe this pic ( http://users.erols.com/jerryp58/corvette/temp/fiber.jpg ) will shed some light (pun :jester ) on what you're missing & how to splice the fiber. It's from the book "Chevrolet Corvette Restoration Guide" by Lindsay Porter (pretty good book). BTW, the previous page has some info on how to do the splice. If you end up doing this and don't have any other info on it, let me know, and I'll get it to you.
Another thing that happens is they get painted. The headlights get pulled but guess whats sitting out in the open? the connector, so it gets paint on the end.
Thanks for the picture jerryp58. Guess what, my headlight plug doesn't look like the one in the picture. It is the three pronged plug, but nothing in the center of the three prongs. I guess I will be looking around for some of those plugs. Or adapt the ones I have for the fiber optic.
Anyway, thanks for the replys. I now know where to start.
