I am buying headers for my 78L82 is it worth the extra moola for the ceramic coated type, for less heat disbursement and looks? Also what brand do you recomend? Thanks for input.
dynomax ceramic are great value...no issues with mine....it's worth it just from the upkeep...not having to deal with blistered paint and surface rust...and cooler temps are always a bonus in a C3!
Dynomax may not win a beauty contest, but they look OK, work great and control heat well. I can put my bare hand on them just a few minutes after I stop. Heat under the hood is lower too. That is, compared to the stainless steel block huggers I had before the Dynomax full length ceramic headers.
I went with Hedman Elites on my 79 L82. The installation was easy and no fitment issues. I especially enjoy the way they attached to the exhaust with no gaskets involved to have to replace.
From previous responses it is the heat control that the ceramic coating offers that is the primary function of this. The next benefit is with the aesthetic look of the headers, in that they will not burn away the paint, begin to rust, etc.
I am planning on replacing my stock exhaust manifolds with ceramic coated headers also.
Not to hijack this thread, but will the ceramic coating keep the temp as low as wrapped headers? I am planning to buy a set as well.
No, but wrapping headers voids the warranty of most headers. Ceramic coatings don't. That may not be true for all headers, so you need to check the warranty of the headers you are considering.
I'd suggest buying the non coated headers, installing them to check the fit and then send them off to be coated. That way if you have to ding a tube for fitment, you wont' affect teh coating. I like to drive my car with m flip flops off in the summer. I couldn't do it before I had my headers coated, the floor was too hot. Now I can. I have Hooker Super Comps on mine.

Beat me to it. Sure it's more work but it may be worth it.
Bought "MELROSE" for our C4 and had them Jet-Hot. Fit was great and the temps under the hood have dropped. Finish is holding up fine for 2 seasons now. C4 side of the block has alot of input there about coating. Good Luck wro87
