Default Rack and Pinion Slop?

For those have converted to Rack and Pinion, is it just me or do you still have slop in your system as a result of the steering shaft coming through the firewall moving laterally before it rotates? I replaced my lower steering column bearing with a new one and I can still the shaft moving laterally therefore introducing slop into the system as the double u-joint would rather move laterally before it rotates. Looks like I need to install a roller bearing to eliminate this problem as the stock ball bearing with bearings in one end only will not cut it.

I have no movement there at all, even with my original bearing.

Same here. Is the steering smooth when you turn it from left to right and lock to lock? If it is binding at some points along this route, you may still need to adjust the angles some to eliminate this binding.

I put in a new bearing when I switched to Steeroids. I had side-play at first, but then I realized I didn't put the bearing in far enough. I took the u-joints off the shaft, slipped a piece of pipe over the shaft, and tapped the bearing in a little more. Problem solved.

I also have a lot of lateral play in the lower shaft coming through the firewall. Any recommended places to get this bearing and any installation tips would be very helpful. Thanks.
