The tech notes say with Hooker Header Sidepipes you need to "dimple" the right rear tube when installing the steeroids kit.. I've seen some pictures of it when finished and it appears to be a small dimple. My question is: How is this done? Hopefully with the header(s) still installed....I'm thinking a torch and hammer are gonna be involved or maybe an air chisel (which I have), but has anybody done this? I have the Hooker factory ceramic coating, is this gonna be a problem? Anybody done this?
I think some have used heat and then strike a socket against the header with a hammer to create the actual dimple. I have not done this myself but remember reading it somewhere and I filed it .
I ran into this same issue with my Jet-Hot coated Hooker Super Competition (under car) headers. The muffler shop that installed them for me heated them up and used a hammer to make a dimple. The header was not in the car when they did it, but the problem is that the heat from the blow torch damaged the Jet Hot coating in that area. I ended up repainting the area with header paint which has to be baked on. It is not as good as the Jet-Hot coating but will hopefully prevent it from rusting out in that area. My advice would be to mark the area that needs to be dimpled, remove the header, and make a dimple with a hammer WITHOUT heating it so you don't damage your ceramic coating.
Does anyone have a pic of the dimple when installed? Would love to see it again...I can't seem to remember where I saw it. Just went through a lot of old issues of Corvette Fever and Vette Mag to no avail...
