Another one of those cheap performance engine build threads
Ok, after alot of reading of a multitude of threads and it seems that the popular choice for upping the compression and gaining torque is for a vortec head swap. I was thinking about getting the vortec heads, a new intake, new cam, and I have a holly 650 that I may use. I was also thinking about adding fuel injection a little bit down the line and did some research on a couple systems that work with the vortec heads. The engine is, as far as I know, an L48 and it has been rebuilt along with the transmission. The extent of the rebuild, I am unsure. It runs very well aside from the horrible exhaust that is currently rotting as we speak which I do plan on replacing.
i did the exact same swap a month ago. you will love i! i used a summit 1105, but i wish i had the 1103 for more low end torque. i have about 370 hp at the crank and about 410 lbs of torque.

Do you have any pictures, videos, sound clips? I like my visual information
other information i didn't include before was that this car is going to be a daily driver and I am looking to acheive about the 300hp mark. I want low-end power/torque as I probably won't be tracking the car and it will primarily be used on the street. I just desire a few more ponies under the hood.
Is there any better option aside from vortecs? (offer similar performance - bang for the buck)
So i've been talking with a few members about the zz4 aluminum heads which have a 58cc. I would also put on a performer manifold, the summit 1103 cam, and there would be new exhaust as well. With this setup, would I be fine running 87 octane, or should I really use a higher octane gasoline?
