Made two passes last night before the rain came. Car ran 12.37 and 12.337, with 60fts of 1.96 and 1.888, the later being a new best. Was pleased with the 60s as they were by far the worst part of my game last year. The first pass, I bogged a little and I could feel the gears fighting to go. Last year that would have probably been a 2.1+ 60 foot. The second launch increased rpm to 2500, spun just a touch.
Had about 80 runs last year with a best of 12.21, yesterdays runs would have made the top 5 best which is encouraging. Was a little disapointed though on the second run, saw the 1.88 60 foot go up on the board so I was expecting a vastly improved ET.
MPH last year was between 114 and a best of 116.82, which was touched a couple times. Yesterday was 113.5 & a low 114.
A quick comparison against last years better times shows that the 4:11s generated better 60ft, 330ft, but by the 8th things were evening up. Split times 60 to 330, 330 to 1/8th etc... were good but appear to be slightly better with 3:70s.
For comparisons sake the only differences between last year and this year are the gears, new rear adjustable shocks, flex fan and a slightly lighter balancer. Also had to put my heavy old flywheel back on as I destroyed my beautiful aluminum one and still breaking in new clutch which is taking some getting use to. Car is running a little rich, and timing needs to be checked as it has a tendency to work towards retarding. Hope to have it in better tune before next trip to track. Due to rain, was unable to try out my Hoosiers.
With slicks I found that 9 - 9.5 pounds used the most of the face of the tire. Do you have a line lock?

Old-time class-racers (where ET was everything ) used to multiply their ET x their MPH, and used this number, called a 'Hook-Factor', to judge how-effeciently they were applying their available power to the track on the drag-srtip:
they reasoned that a H-F of 1320 (oddly, the number of feet int he quarter-mile) was about optimal, with a H-F of well-over 1350 showing that your ET could improve by improving traction, chassis-setup, gearing, etc. (i.e.- they were leaving power on the table), but a H-F of under 1320 meant the car was gear-bound before the stripe, and wasn't accelerating the entire track.
'Assuming' your previous Hook-Factor was above 1320, a quicker ET with a slower MPH just means that you are effeciently using your power:
congrats on the new Personal Best!
The 60ft was a new best, not the 1/4 mile ET. I am sure that will come soon enough. Little confused though on how I cut my best 60ft by a long shot and it did'nt equate to a new best overall et. I saw the short time go up on the board and figured this was going to be it, and when I got the ticket.......

'Generally-speaking', however-much you improve your 60' times will equate to a quarter-mile ET betterment of approx 1.5 to twice that-much
(i.e.- if your short-time improves .1, you can expect to see an ET-improvement of .15 to .2 seconds, everything-else being equal):
is it possible that the shifts weren't as-smooth as before, atmospheric-conditions were worse than previous days (I note that over-all MPH was down, but I doubt the motor was wound-tight? ), etc.
Yeah, I was kind of counting on that rule of thumb .1 in 60ft equaling .2 in the quarter, when I saw the 1.8+ come on the board I figured I was going very low 12s.
Car needs a going over, this was the first time down the track this year, doing so many repairs perhaps neglected some basic tune ups. Better than last years first day at the track when we had all kinds of problems and ran in the 14s.
Shift points may be an issue as well, they were coming so fast with the 4:11s, last year I spent a little time in each gear with the 3:70s. We have a shift light to put in, but like I said with all the repairs it got put on back burner.

It takes time..... your 113-116 MPH trap-speeds are indicative of a car that can-run mid 11s.
Just got back from Nationals in Virginia and wanted to give update. Car set a personal best of 12.02 @ 116.85. Started Friday running 12.40s Saturday morning timeshots was into low 12.20s, and then weather changed and I combined that with best 60 yet for a 12.02, followed that with a couple of 12 teens.
One other change was recently made, switching to an M20 from M21 Muncie giving me even more gear, had it laying around the basement. When changing the clutch, the M21 seemed to be leaking everywhere and was'nt looking all that tight.
Car really pulls well, Granny shifting at about 6500. Figure power shifting would get me in the 11s. Getting real close now.
