Default clutch pedal adjustment

After a search, I didn't find an answer to this question. I have only a small amount of disengagement of the clutch right at the bottom of the pedal travel. I see from the search that I can get an adjustable pivot ball for the bellhousing. However, the z-bar has 2 holes in the half that connects to the pedal. I'm currently in the upper hole with the pedal rod rotated to the upward position. If I flip the rod, it will (I think) fit into the lower hole. This should increase the distance that the clutch arm travels. The setup I have is ST-10 with aluminum bellhousing, stock style pressure plate and disc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Kip, have you already exhausted all of the threads on your clutch rod? Very little movement of the pivot makes for a large difference in clutch release.

Yes, I'm at the end of travel on the clutch rod. Since this is a new setup, I'm guessing I bought the wrong length throw-out bearing. The only other possibility is that I have the wrong z-bar or clutch fork. Since I don't know what the various z-bars measure, I can't tell. Same goes for the fork.

I just adjusted mine where it comes through the fire wall. In the engine bay. I was on the floor and it is now just right for me.

Well I just flipped the clutch rod over and attached it to the lower hole on the z-bar. Pedal is a bit stiffer but the travel seems normal. The disengage point is now at about middle of the pedal travel.

To piggy back here on a related issue. Does your clutch pedal set much higher (closer to you) than the brake? Supposedly there is a clutch bumper pad that is on the inside of the car at the top of the pedal, but for the life of me, I can't get contorted enough to see where it should mount.

Every one I've talked to and everything I've read says the clutch pedal is suppose to sit about an inch higher than the brake pedal. Seems strange to me and kind of awkward at first, but that's what I've found.

Anybody else have different experiences????

There's a post by pbcanney - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...h+pedal+bumper

That gives some info and initially took me down the research path. Zip-products have the on their site for about $3

My pedal does sit about 1" higher than the brake pedal. Unless my memory is fading, most of the 60's and 70's cars I've driven have had this arraingement. My setup has new (probably remanufactured) pedals and new bumpers. Now that the automatic is gone, the car runs like I'd expect a vette, or any muscle car to run. Tires can be spun at will, and it's not difficult to get multiple gear rubber.
