Sorry, that post should have been in C3 generel section, I have moved it :o

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1991028

But I do have a related tech question. The oil pressure gauge goes off the scale (over 70 psi) when it idles. Is this likely a problem with the oil pressure gauge, or something wrong with engine?

It's possible you could have one of those melling HV oil pumps in your engine. I installed one in mine and it pegs over to the right side of the guage too........i would check that first.

If the Vette has been sitting for extended periods of time, the oil pump pressure relief valve may be gummed up and sticking. First step would be to put another guage on the fitting by the distributor and get a second opinion from another pressure guage. Oil pan drops easily when you pull the steering idler arm off the frame. Looks like a nice find!

Very nice find. Yes the steering wheel is incorrect. It looks like it has a tilt column which is also incorrect(for 1968). I have been going over my 1968 "barn find" for a couple of years now and it looks to be completely origin less paint.

Thanks... I have looked under the bottom, it does not look like the engine has been opened or the oil pan has been off, so I would be surprised if it has a HV melling pump. I have drained the oil from the engine, that oil was many years old

The steering wheel is not original but the PO still has the original (wood or wood-like) steering wheel, I will get it when he finds it.

Its not a tilt column but just a telescopic column. That was an option in 1968, was it not?

I have changed the oil and tried to run the engine (on the starter) with no valve on.

There is not coming any oil to the top... Any ideas what to do next?
