I searched threads and was not able to come up with an answer to this one so here goes........
Is the GF432 filter also a pressure regulator? I have a 69 350/350 that the p.o. installed a Holley 750 and Edelbrock intake on. He claimed it never ran right for him and I have had nothing but problems it either. The GF432 was removed and a regular inline filter was installed. With the line running directly from the fuel pump to the carb with no regulation or pressure relief between them there is no way to properly regulate the pressure and stop the fuel from being forced past the needles and seats I had until now just assumed that the return line on the stock filter was to prevent vapor lock, but now I'm curious as to what regulates fuel pressure on this car when the pump itself has no bypass.
Check the fuel pump to make sure he did not swap that also as with the 70+ fuel pumps. There is a return fuel line/pressure regulator built into the pump 1970+. I recently switched out my 69 stock setup for a 70+ style where the return fuel line is located in the pump controling the pressure. This way I don't have to deal with that $52 GF432 fuel filter that has become limited production, etc. My understanding is the GF432 is suppose to control pressure but not 100% certain.
