When wiring a 6al is it nessery to run a cable all the way back to the battery for the power or can you splice into a sourse somewhere else? Also mounting options?

I ran a dedicated line all the way to the battery but I did have the engine and trans out at the time so it was easy.
I mounted mine on the passenger wheel well behind the expansion tank. I have pictures but can't post them at work, sorry. You will get people saying keep it out of the heat and moisture but mine has been installed for over 7 years without issue.
I installed on the passenger side splash shield. Not sure if under car exhaust would be too close or contact but works for sidepiped. Ditto on the starter.

I also pulled power from the starter and mounted on the right side inner fender. Most people don't even see it hidden there. I've never had any problems, but I did wonder about heat issues with my side pipes.
