Default wiring

alot of posts on this site about thermo fans . i too have them but dont like the control switches available. i find them unreliable and inaccurate. i am just going to install a manual switch so i can turn them on and off as i please cause im the only one who drives the car so it will work for me. what do i do ? just get power from my alternator, run the wire to a relay and go to the switch with an earth. anyone got any pics or diagrammes on a good install that im after?

Yeah, just use a four terminal relay, a 50 amp toggle switch, and your wiring.

Give the relay 12V, from either the alternator BAT lug or the starter BAT lug. Then, run the output wire from the relay to the fan's power wire. Ground the fan to the frame or engine, so it's close.

Then, trigger the relay with an IGN or ACC source. The yellow wiper motor wire works well for this. This ensures that whenever your engine is running you will have the ability to run the fan.

Finally, run the relay's ground to the frame or engine.

I would put the switch inline with the IGN trigger wire instead of the ground. You want the ground to be short, but the trigger wire doesn't support a heavy load.

Also, if you're running dual fans, I would suggest a pair of relays instead of a single.
