Default Fan Shroud install?

I gotta replace the fan shroud in my 77 coupe. I pickup us a used one from a forum member but am just wondering if its a pain in the %%% to install. I dont have any a/c stuff in my car. I am thinking I can just pull the fan and fan clutch and I may be good to go.
Any help would be great
thanks
Jimbo

It's a pita job, a/c or not, I believe. The problem is the control arms as I recall. Others will chime in I'm sure.

On my 79, the shroud forms around the A arms.
I had to disconnect the radiator hoses and mounts, lift the radiator out first, and then the shroud. Install would be the reverse.
Not sure if your 77 is the same.

I think the only easy way is to unbolt the top bolts on the side of the core support, and rotate the radiator and core support forward enough to get the shroud in past the A-arms.

I didn't want to go to all that trouble when I removed mine so I cut mine in half to get it out, and switched to electric fans so I wouldn't have to put it back in.

yes, most definitly a PITA job.

remove the bolts that hold the rediator frame in place and shove it as far forward as you can. that helps allot.

it also dosen't hert to make a sheild to protect the back of your radiator during the install. i used some press board, but card board may work in a pinch.

good luck and remember to step away if you get too frustrated. it'll be there when you calm down.

hope this helps,

Mike.

The shroud and radiator go in as a unit if the radiator support is already in place. Obviously, the fan and clutch need to be out of the car.

Default Remember to Support the front nose

Word of warning, the radiator support also supports the nose of the car. I'd suggest some support under the nose (I put mine in under the front of each fender between the floor and the bottom of the fenders) or it may drop a bit and make putting the support back in almost impossible. Also, there may be shims under the radiator support, between the support and frame cross member. I put in the side support bolts then hammered in the shims. Easier than having the shims and place and trying to get the six side bolts started in the rad. support.

And yes, it is a royal PITA! And my hood was off, and the front bumper. If your bumper is in place it may stop the drop, but be aware of a possible shift of load from the rad. support to the nose of the car.
