Default 82 fuel pump wiring

upon the advice of many, i have installed a new fuel pump on my 82. since i have installed it, the vehicle won't start---no fuel. my cover has two terminals. one is a black wire going to what looks like a resistor, the second is a brown going to the sending unit. when i installed the pump, i wired the pump positive to the resiter thing black wire and the ground to the black wire welded to the return tube. is this right? please help. the installation instructions with the pump are very vague!

I did mine last week and you are right about the instructions. I had exactly the same problem and I gues you have made the same mistake - the pump is sucking instead of blowing cos you have the two wires reversed.
If you have a AC Delco pump like me , the instructions read A . Positive wire Bla Bla and then B . ground wire Bla BLa . I didn't read the Bla correctly and took the Positive to the one going to the A connector terminal and the ground to go to the B terminal - if you read the Bla through you will see it is the opposite way around . I switched mine over and away she went no damage , no problems.
It may have been better if they had labelled the instructions 1 and 2 or even swapped the two sets of instructions around so that they did then correspond to the terminal.
What did I learn ? - read the instructions properly
Hope this helps -and by the way , you will love your new car after this is done ( set the FP to 14 psi)

Britvette
What did you do to set your fuel pressure to 14PSI?
Did you use the 85 fuel pump?

Yes I used the 85 Ac delco pump .
To change the fuel pressure you need to have a fuel pressure guage fitted to measure pressure between the two TBI's . I have a Fuel pressure guage assembly from DCS that replaces the fuel line between the tbi's and is permanently fitted - looks great , fits under the air cleaner and gives you instant access to your fuel pressure at all times.
The fuel pressure is adjusted by turning the fuel pressure adjustment screw located on the bottom of the fuel pressure regulator on the rear tbi - it is covered with a tab by the factory that you need to remove before you can adjust. You then need a special tool to be able to reach up under the regulator pod and turn the adjuster screw. I had my TB's re-bushed by DCS (they do great work) , they removed the tab/cover from the adjuster screw for me and they sell a FP adjuster tool that I bought that makes the job a piece of cake.
So you fit the 85 pump anf the FP guage and then just wind the pressure up to 14 psi - the difference in get up and go and steady pull through all the gears when compared to before is like night and day.
This is the DCS web site , check them outhttp://www.crossfireinjection.net/
