I'm planning on changing the heater core in my 74. Car has no air. Does the heater core come out from the firewall side on cars with no air, or out from the interior side ??? Thnx Dave

I tried to get mine out from the firewall side, but couldn't pull the core all the way out. There is one spring clip that you can get to from the firewall side but another bolted clip is hidden under the seal that holds the core into the heater box. If you can get a nut driver behind the seal and remove this clip, you may get lucky. If not, under the dash you go!
I should mention, the seal I refer to surrounds the heater core tubes that extend into the engine bay. The clip has two small bolts holding it in place.
Just removed mine Sunday night. The core I replaced 10 years ago sprung a leak.
You only need to remove the passenger dash pad and the radio.
Pretty straight forward removal. Don't forget to remove the two screws under the "corvette" on the center dash below the wiper switch and the one screw that holds the air diverter behind the radio(long screw driver from the drivers footwell).
