Dang Nick, wish I had the cash. We could REALLY have some fun at the strip in Bowling Green then.

I personally know Nick (Vettemaniac) and he's as honest and meticulous as they come. If you need the baddest of the baddest rear end for a monster motor car then you will not be disappointed. Nick and Jim have tried getting this bad boy in my vette but unfortunately with a 1 yr old and another on the way the funds just aren't there.

Good luck with the sell Nick and get that Mopar ready!

OK Travis,
What you need to do is (TM).... forget the C5 for now. You see for that money you could buy the Dana 60 and the 638 and retire the 427 to garage art status like Jim did. Sounds like a plan right.

Seriously, how did you go from eyeballing your daughter's piggybank jar to fix the 427 to buying a nice C5 and fixing the 427 in one month. Did dear old aunt Mildred kick the bucket and leave you as the sole inheritor? Did you pay the math tax (lotto) and actually win? Inquiring minds want to know?

Thank you for the kind words below. If you figure a way sell the wife on the idea of a Dana 60 and 638, I will help you install them. I would like to see this stuff stay in the immediate family (mmm) and if not that, then the extended family (CF Forum).

My finances have changed slightly but not enough to spend that kind of cash on my 'toy'. My truck gets such horrible gas mileage that the C5 will darn near pay for itself in gas savings. Plus, I've had the truck for almost 10 years and I'm getting a little sick of it. I just can't afford a new truck that gets better mileage and I can't see myself in a little import. So C5 it is.
The 427 is still 'in the process' but I have most of the parts already for it.

Not sure yet. There's a slim possibility we could do it this weekend.

Nope...sorry I don't have any current pics. I had a bunch of when I put it together.....had a computer crash...but luckily backed it all up on some discs.....moved and can't find the discs yet! Jeez!

Anyway. mine is very similar. Mine uses a 3/4" aluminum plate that bolts to the Dana where the rear cover would go with countersunk bolts. Then the stock Vette cover bolt to it. I sectioned the center part of stock crossmember to move the mounting holes 3/4' rearward to make up for aluminum plate. I also added a *wing* that extends rearward from where the diff bolts to the crossmember. I dropped bolts (welded to a plate) down from inside of the welded in crossmember behind the diff and attach the wing to the rear crossmember with a cushion inbetween. The idea is to allow it to take some load off the two bolts holding crossmember in and let rear *pull* down on the welded crossmember. Not a real big deal...just seemed logical.

I made front mount out of some C-channel sorta like Nick's, but slightly different. All this stuff bolts to stock mounts just like Nicks.

Mine uses Tom's outer stub axles and I had custom 3.5"x.134 wall halfshafts made with 1480 series solid Spicer joints.

Mine uses a posi unit instead of a spool...but otherwise looks pretty similar. My inner yokes are not the flat type like Nicks..but are basically Spicer truck yokes that have been heat treated. My outers are just like Nick's with the flat flanges.

I had Vette Brakes make custom Heim jointed strut rods for me.

I can tell you stuff like this adds up $$ very quickly!

You're scootin' pretty fast there!! Definitely time to think about a better rear end setup. I got tired of babying mine too and finally put it all together with the Dana. Haven't touched it since. In fact went to 1/8th mile track last weekend and got in a few runs. All had 5000+ RPM launches with no drama and no breakage. A GOOD and FUN night!
