Default t&t column reassembly

i'm replacing the turn switch in my 70 t&t column. it lokks as though the two small coil springs in the switch just clear the outer diameter of the large coil spring (the one that is so much fun to compress while placing the C clip). when the switch is pushed to the right or left position, the small coil springs move into the diameter of the large spring and (i think) will limit proper movement. is this normal?

Jeff,
The coil spring should fit up inside the plastic horn contact carrier (also know as the cancelling cam) on your T&T column. The nubs on the outside of the carrier are what push on those two small coil springs and cancel your turn signals.

You might find the blowup drawings and the T&T Disassembly & Repair Papers at this sight to be of help.

Go to www.corvettefaq.com
Click on Jim Shea's Steering Papers
Click on Corvette Steering Papers
Scroll down to the Tilt & Telescoping Steering Column section
There is a Tilt & Telescoping Column 69-82 Disassembly & Repair Paper #1 that should be of assistance.

thanks, jim
i used your repair papers wihile working on the column and they provided great help, but the possible interference of the two small coil springs in the turn switch had me worried.
