Broken Lifter???

What could cause an anti-pump up lifter to fully pump up and not pass any oil up thru the pushrod? Something internal broken? This got me stumped.

One way to break a hyd lifter is to have clearance or no pre-load when you initially adjust the rockers. When there is no pre load (1/2 to 1 turn), the lifter fills up completely & there is very little time to displace the fluid the next time around. The weakest link is the lifter internals.

Ah ha, that no preload condition could have occurred. Thanks for the answer. Its lifter pulling time.
