I bought the Summit SBC alt bracket kit (SUM2001) and my 2 wire plug is too close to the valve cover preventing the cover from coming off without disassembling the alt brackets. The new bracket rod is adjusted out as far as can be done safely. Clocking it over should fix the problem.
There was only one thread that said the brushes fall off when you pull the halfs apart and to use a paper clip to hold them on assembly. Can someone explain if this is the only thing you have to do and how exactly do you use the paper clips?
A lot of guys are going to post and tell you to use an impact wrench on the big nut(not me, and do you even have an impact wrench?) but it's still good to know about pinning the brushes.
You can see the white brush holder, look closely and you'll see the pin in the hole. Insert it from the outside of the case while you hold the brushes in place. Pull it out after it's all bolted up again.
How many brushes can we see in the pic? Are the brushes in the center by the 3 nuts in a row? Or are they those two little kinda diamond shape things outside that?
Kaps called it white while A88 called it silver but your talking about the box thing attached to the voltage regulator with the 2 connectors sticking out the case.
And the little hole on the box that's closest to the center shaft area is where you stick the paper clip into.
So now is there a hole you stick the paper clip in from the back side? It looks from this pic you would have to do it somehow from the front?
When you split the case open it'll be an "oh, that's simple" moment. You put the paper clip into the hole after you open it up and the brushes pop out. There's a corresponding hole in the back half of the case. Don't miss the brush springs.
