Was watching on HorsePower TV about the new E3 spark plugs....according to them, there was a gain of about 8-12 hp just by using the E3 plugs. They also showed the "firing" of a stock plug and the E3......the difference between a flashlight and a camera flash....looked to be more powerful....
So...what are ya'll's thoughts, comments and opinions....
i was watching that as well. Ill hand it to them, the spark LOOKS much brighter and stronger, but im having a hard time seeing an 8-12hp gain, maybe 3-5 is resonable. Either way, that much hp from changing plugs is pretty impressive.
I missed that segment of the show...were those plugs tested in a bone stock engine or a built up engine? I find it a bit difficult to take that so much increase would occur in a stock engine. Also...at what rpm range was the increase recorded? It may be at wide open throttle where a street car rarely if ever sees.
Is the spark plug manufacturer a sponsor or advertiser on the show? One thing they don't want to do is not show a sponsor's product in the best light possible.
It sounds like another case of if it sounds to good to be true...
If I remember correctly, the engine was a 383, carburated, with headers and was dyno'd stand alone on a machine. They compared the OEM plug with the E3....
Also, both times the engine was run to 6000 rpm and according to the printout, the increase happened at around 5500 RPM...something a street car would rarely (if ever) see.
