Default Trying to Determine Where a Wire Goes

On the driver side of my '69 vette, in the engine compartment, there is a tan or brownish wire that is not plugged into anything. The terminal or end of the wire has a terminal that looks like a small version of the rubber cover at the end of a spark plug wire -- an L-shaped rubber terminal. Again, the cover is about half the size of the spark plug rubber cover.

I've looked at the wiring diagram for the engine department. I see some brown or tan wires, but I haven't been able to identify in the diagram the wire I see when I look at the wiring in my engine compartment.

Can someone tell me what the wire plugs into?

Probably goes to the brake failure switch on the proportioning valve. Its located under the mastercylinder on the frame. Has the brake lines going in and out of it. If you ground that wire, the brake light in the dash should come on.

Thank you and everybody else for your help on this.

When you indicate that, by plugging the wire into the valve and grounding the wire, the brake light should come on, do you mean the hand brake light?

If you ground the wire when it is not on the switch, and everything is working correctly, yes, the same light (hand brake light) will come on. You probably need the ignition switch in the "on" position. If you plug the wire onto the brake line pressure switch, the light should NOT light up unless something is wrong. The light servers a duel purpose. Hand brake on, and trouble in the hydrolic system. If your duel master cylinder starts to go bad, and fluid goes by a bad internal seal, you will develop different pressures in the brake lines. This will move the pressure switch off center and ground it, lighting up the idiot light. After the problem is corrected, you will then have to re-center the switch in order to turn off the light.
