I've finally gotten around to upgrading my rubber bushings to polyurethane.
I got the shaft removed from the spindle support pretty easily (which seems to give most people problems). But I cannot remove the four bracket to carrier bolts. I have loosened all four and removed the nuts, but the nuts face the front of the car and the bolt heads face the rear, meaning they cannot be removed entirely due to the leaf spring, they only slide back an inch before hitting the spring.
I'm guesing somebody replaced these while the spring was off the car, so they were intalled in this manner.
Has anyone had this problem? I think I'll wind up cutting the bolts, unless someone else has a suggestion.
Why don't you just remove the whole bracket itself with the camber bolts and the rods still connected on the inboard side. Once you remove the 4 bolts that hold it to the bottom of the diff, it should fall out and than you can remove the camber bolts. Either that or remove the spring.

Those four bolts are the ones that I cannot remove. This is on a 1980, and the four bolts cannot come out becuase the spring prevents me from removing them completely.
Please post a picture of the bolts you are trying to remove. The strut rod bracket bolts are vertical with the the heads toward the ground. They should not be covered at all by the spring.

Or are you talking about the bolts with the cams in them for the camber adjustment and the shock mounts?
On 1980-82 corvettes the four bolts holding the strut rod bracket to the differential are horizontal, and per assembly drawings, the heads should face the front of the car, to allow removal with the spring in place. I wish they were vertical, it would be much easier. I would up removing the spring tonight, and got one side finished. It was amazing, there was virtually no rubber left.
