I seem to remember reading that the yoke from a th350 does not fit all of the way on to the rear spline of the 200r is this correct? I hope so becacuse mine has a long way to go. The real problem is I need about a 1\2" to get the drive shaft to bolt up. If all of the above is correct and I don't need a bigger hammer what is the best way to solve the prob? Drop the back of the tranny a little? Also the shifter cable seems to be way to long and I can't seem to figure out how to mount the related bracket. Thanks for the help Tom
someone please commet. I know this is not as exciting as discussing burnouts but I am pretty sure I will need to attach the drive shaft to spin the tires. I'm a big boy so once I get back to that area it's really tight and hard to work. Drop back of tranny to link up yoke to DS?
I installed a 200-4R in my 79 without any problems with the stadard 350 stock yoke that came in the car. Have you measured your 200 for length compared to the 350 that you pulled out? I am not sure if there were tail shaft length differences with the 200 or not. As far as the bracket for the shift cable you will have to modify the holes in the bracket for it to bolt up to the pan on the 200. Hope this helps.
To my knowledge I do not think there is a long and short tail shaft for a 200 they should all be the same length(someone please correct me if I am wrong)
Are you saying you need a 1/2" more to make it or is your current drive shaft a 1/2" too long?
In either case a drive line shop can cut a 1/2" out or add in unles you have an issue else where....
I do not know for sure I run a 4-speed in my car, I am just trying to offer what I can.
The yoke should be the same. You should not have to hammer anything in place. If it does not slide in easily then try a different yoke or check the shaft in the trans for a problem.
The bolt pattern is different for the oil pans so you need to modify or purchace the correct braket for the shifter cable.
I used the yoke from my 350, it went right on no problem. There is a little bit of shiny yoke sticking out of the seal on the back of the tranny, indicating that the 2004R might be a tad shorter than the 350 was, but it has plenty of insertion to be good to go.
Thanks for all of the advise. It was like 12am when I was trying to get the yoke in probally just too tired to get it right. I bought the unit from BTO and the bracket is a shift works so I don't know why I would need to mod it. Big storm coming this way so I guess I"ll have to wait til tomarrow to get back on it. ( I live in Arkansas we can only do mechanic work under a shade tree)
Yes, it will have some movement with the yoke removed. The slip yoke slides onto the shaft and slides into a bushing in the tail housing, that is how the tail shaft is supported.
