About to finish putting my car back together and wanted some advise on my hooker sidepipes. I bought chrome but am now considering having them Jet Hot Coated before installation. My understanding is this finish reduces temp in the engine compartment, and last longer. If anyone has any experience with this process I would really appreciate your advise and input.
I had my headers Jet hot coated. Can't say if it reduced the temp because I went from exhaust manifolds to coated headers. They do cool down pretty fast. They have been coated for 5 years now and still look very good. It was not cheap but well worth it in my opinion. i would do it again
I've had all the street rod headers coated (by Sermatech, but it's essentially the same coating from all the different shops). It greatly reduces the radiated heat. On my 23 T you could burn your hand on the 'glass body near the headers before they were coated. Afterward the body was warm but much, much cooler. You could touch the headers themselves only a few minutes after the motor was shut down.
The coating is quite durable, and impervious to everything .... except "cat urine" (cat sent marked the car to claim it as his) .
Finish is nice, but is not anything linke chrome for shine and reflection, but it also won't discolor. I've heard the new chrome processes (due to EPA restrictions) are even worse for discolor and bluing than in the old days. I'd ask them about their durability if that's an issue to you.
Scuba, Not sure if you want to get chrome pipes coated, but...
when you contact JET-HOT, ask for Todd. Although not a "supporting vendor" he has done group purchases for corvette forum in the past and has given forum discounts, but you have to ask! MJ
Bryan. Get in touch with MassVette. He's got some opinions!! If you need some sidepipes just to coat don't waste your plated ones. E-mail me. JCL   :chevy
It would run $480 to coat your parts inside & out with our Sterling finish.
They do charge $80 for chrome removal. We'll need them here for 5-7 days
plus shipping time. Return shipping would be $60. If you're interested, we
do sell the whole system for $1125 for the small block Vettes. That
includes new headers, new mufflers and sidepipes. Of course they're coated
with our Sterling finish as well.
All parts receive a 3 year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping,
peeling, cracking, discoloration, rusting - anything. New parts also get a
lifetime rust through warranty as well.
Please ship your parts to:

Just be sure to include your name and return info so we know who they belong
to and specify the finish of your choice. As for billing, you can either
include a credit card number with the parts or you can call one in to the
phone number listed below.
I had mine done, deffinitly would do it again, no they aren't as shiny as chrome, more like polished aluminum, but they don't discolor and as everyone else said they cool off real quick so it's easy to do plug changes soon after shutdown, I think I got mine back in two weeks if I remember right.
