Default What is this? PIC

Anybody know what this part is for? (see the blue ring on the picture) I accidentially hit it while changing sparkplugs and it sound like a bell?!? The car is a 1968..

hard to tell from picture, possibly a vacuum tank that possibly has been relocated.

I'll try to get a better picture. But it is not a vacuum tank, it is hollow like a bell. I was first thinking alarm system, but very few 68's had that, right?

That would be your dilithium crystal synthesizer. Only available as an option in '68.

Long-shot guess is somebody wanted to fashion a home-grown car alarm and attempted to adapt a 'bell'. Would be interesting to see what's inside it.

probably some kind of aftermarket anti theft device , maybe the alarm .

Nah, they couldn't do that in '68. They still can't in the 23 & 1/2 century.
It kinda looks live a vacuum resivour. Did anything stop working?

yes looks like an edwards signaling item that is avail in 12v and around for years.

I have to agree...look like an old school fire alarm bell.
But why would it be mounted on the passenger side...thought they were under the dash.

You can see the wire going up to the hood open switch (to the left of the bell) Original owner wanted to make sure he woke up when that hood opened

Is it a "Flux Capacitor" ??? Maybe not......, it doesn't have that "Y" shape to it...
