Default Driveshaft shortening question

I just ordered my TKO 600 setup along with a Mcleod Bellhousing from Kevin...thanks buddy...and I was just going to have my driveshaft shortened. Whats the correct procedure for shortening a drive shaft? Just so when I go into a shop and inquire about their process for shortening I'll know if they know what they are doing. Also if I were to have a driveshaft made that is much stronger, how much would that be? Ballpark...

A driveshaft shop that stays in business knows what it's doing. You can't screw up driveshafts & stay in business. Ask to look at some their work. The welds should like like they were done by someone who could weld in their sleep. Usual things, is the shop clean, is it busy, has it been around for a few years. All you do to shorten one is clean it, cut it off square, reweld an end back on & balance the assembly. Oh yeah, don't forget the u-joints. Solid Spicer or Neepco. I don't believe that new custom driveshafts are overly expensive.

what is the best way to measure the length for a new shaft? what should the distance be between the tail shaft and the yoke after installation? should you have just enough clearance to slide the u joint into position at the pinion, or is extra clearance needed?

http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/

They have info on how to measure on their website. I have had Denny's do up several for me. Never had a problem with any of them.
