Then at start up I heard the same grinding sound I stopped , and now I am lost as to what to look for next ,I took the starter in and had it tested it passed ,the only thing I havent done is buy a new starter this ones fairly new, should I have replaced it also with a new one !!!Lost vet owner who needs help !!!
Remove the solenoid from the starter so you can engage the drive manually. With the dust shield off you can see (check) how deep the teeth are engaging. Then add a shim or two as needed.
Alternate way is just stick a shim in and give it a try..
Sometimes the block/starter/flywheel is just a little bit off.
