not to mention how far its open, I'd hate to be working under that and look up to watch it close on you...it doesn't appear to be the lightest thing ever made either. Even if it was light, its still bulky as hell.

If you were going to do that you would need to cut the wheel wells in half as well - otherwise you gain nothing. Also I think it needs to open further - a little redesignon the hinges could resolve that.
I had a C4 and loved the access it offered to the engine you can actually replace sparkplugs on a c4 without going underneath the car. I can only access 2 - maybe 3 plugs on my 78 from above . the rest require a floor jack - jack stands and laying on the ground - what a pain.
