I bought a 69 convertible a few months ago, which was all original with the exception of the radio. The guy before me had installed a CD player, which made no sense to me since you couldn't hear it over the pipes or with the top down, but I digress. I recently had the original put back in. The guys doing it aren't corvette experts, but do some nice restorations on GTOs and Mustangs. Anyway, they showed me the wiring which was a complete mess and that whoever installed the aftermarket stereo broke the bezel and surrounding radio console. So, while the original is back in, it's crooked and there is some space where I can see the wiring etc. So, my question is, does anyone know someone in the Atlanta area that has corvette experience and can help me get the radio/console area back to looking presentable? Thanks.
For one thing, you can buy an entire new repro bezel. I bought one years ago, but I forget from whom. They are still available. I'd look first at Corvette Central, Mid America, ZIP, Ecklers, etc.
Buy a colored wiring diagram, particularly from Dr. Rebuild since it has pictures of the connectors. A forum member, Don Olson, sells a large color wiring diagram also that is handy to use.
Wiring the radio in, should be pretty easy for a 69. You'll just have two speakers, one under each of the driver's kick panels. Getting the radio in and out is the hardest part of the job.
