If you wonder what I mean, put your face into a hot engine compartment and try to breath. There should not be any fumes, but you will still feel like you are choking. It is because the hot air under the hood has so little oxygen. Combustion requires oxygen! The stock set up gives you plenty of it.
The single snorkel air cleaner and cold air hose works fine on a stock L48, but as you modify the engine at some point its restrictiveness compared to an open element air cleaner outweighs the cold air versus warm air difference. For some real world data, I compared the two, back to back runs on my car, on a track. The open element produced a 4 tenth quicker ET than the snorkel cold air setup.

No kidding, so the open air setup with say a K&N is the better way to go over the stock ?

Yes, the L81 has a dual snorkle set up.

You can get a K&N for the stock set up (I did), but I really don't think it makes any difference and some people say they don't filter well. Paper filters are cheap and easy. God bless, Sensei

I don't want to rain on your parade here, but the CCC Q-Jets have a couple of things inside that require some special tools to adjust correctly. Nothing difficult, just 100% necessary. Just wanted you to know. One of the tool companies- K-D ? has a kit with the mixture control solenoid and idle air bleed gauges..

Sorry about your Dad. I've been there and it's not easy. Hang in there.

Well that is what I found out with the last q-jet I rebuilt...I had to take it to a local place that rebuilds them and they used the tool for the adjustments, but it cost me $65.00

Thanks for your kind words about my father. The end is close for him, less than a week I was told today I wish he could see the car done, I just want to do it right for him.

I will for sure be asking allot of questions along the way of the rebuild !!
